IOP ~Virtual Based Intensive Out patient Program

Our most extensive substance abuse program and long-term addiction recovery choice.

What is IOP?

Patients with drug use disorders can participate in our organized, planned Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in a non-residential environment. Three hours of group therapy are spent by participants on many days of the week. In addition, they receive one individual counseling session a week and instruction on issues including wellbeing, anger and stress management, and triggers for relapses. It is suggested to include other resources, such as friends or family. Following program completion, weekly aftercare is offered.

Is IOP Effective?

Clinical research and practice show that intensive outpatient treatment is an effective and viable approach for individuals with substance use disorders to begin their recovery, with a 2014 study proving it is as effective as inpatient treatment. Furthermore, a current 2020 study illustrates that digital care is beneficial to substance abuse programming as well!

Our Intensive Outpatient treatment program is accessed online by secure video, so JWCC clients obtain therapy from the privacy of home instead of visiting an office three or four times each week. Because each JWCC client's treatment plan is as distinct as they are, the length of treatment varies. Clients at Journey of Wellness Counseling & Consulting typically spend 12 to 16 weeks in the intense portion of the program. But it's up to you how long you stay at JWCC.

getting started with iop is simple, and here’s how it works

step 1

start the conversation

Speak with a counselor who understands the struggle with drugs and alcohol by filling out the group interest form or contact us

step 2

tell us about you

They’ll get to know you, your needs, and determine if Journey of Wellness Counseling & Consulting’s IOP is right for you.

step 3

begin treatment

We will either schedule a substance evaluation or obtain a release of information to obtain your substance evaluation.

We will then work with you and come up with a plan you can start with in a week to two weeks!

Commonly Asked Questions About IOP

 Who is IOP for?

Intensive Outpatient Program is for people who:

  • 1. Do not need medically-supervised stabilization (detox), do not have severely acute mental health comorbidities, and can commit to a program at the IOP level of care.
  • 2. Cannot attend residential inpatient rehab due to work obligations, child care, lack of transportation, disability/mobility challenges, and other reasons but still would benefit from an intense substance use disorder treatment program.
  • Have graduated residential inpatient rehab and will use IOP to maintain a lot of structure and support groups as they integrate back into the world.

What is the difference between inpatient (residential) and intensive outpatient?

  • Inpatient treatment involves clients living in a facility for treatment, while online Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP) care is provided in sessions of up to three hours, three times weekly, allowing clients to live at home while meeting their family and work obligations.

What is the difference between substance abuse counseling groups and support groups?

  • Professional counselors with licensure in either mental health or addictions treat SUD patients with professional counseling. Treatment for SUD is extremely regimented and adheres to the American Society of Addiction Medicine's(ASAM)best practices. Because the usual period of therapy is several weeks, followed by aftercare, it is categorized as a "brief intervention".

  • Peers with varying degrees of experience and length of time in recovery lead support groups, which include alternatives like Red Road community meetings and 12 Step traditions like Alcoholics Anonymous. The meeting may be highly regimented or less structured, depending on the group. Research has demonstrated that social connections enhance brain function by stimulating the synthesis of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), which is responsible for the creation of new neurons and the healing of injured glial cells and neurons. Participating in mutual self-help groups offers continuous social support and can last a lifetime, unlike SUD therapy. Mutual self-help groups are usually free to attend, however donations are welcome.

Is Virtual IOP right for me?

  • Online IOP is as effective as in-person, allowing clients to receive help from home or anywhere with secure internet access. Journey of Wellness Counseling & Consulting therapists are licensed in five states and try to offer various times and days, that best suit clients' busy lives.
  • Many patients struggle with intensive outpatient programs due to unpredictable work hours, which can lead to missed sessions and discharge. If a patient is court-ordered to attend IOP, this can result in legal hardships and violations, as they may face legal hardships and violations in their daily lives.

What are MY requirements for IOP?

  • The IOP protocol requires three 3-hour group therapy meetings and one 1-hour individual meeting per week. JWCC follows this protocol, but they try to accommodate clients' scheduling preferences. A minimum of three clients is required for group meetings to be adhered. Although they may not have a suitable option at this time, they strive to accommodate clients' needs.
  • JWCC IOP programs can be accessed on any internet-connected device, but clients are advised to use the largest screen possible for group therapy.

I'm court ordered, can you help me?

  • Court involvement is a common aspect of addiction treatment for clients. We use a "Release of Information" document conforming to 42 CFR Part II, and have experience working with attorneys, judges, and probation officials. We support clients through their journey.

Is my information and treatment confidential?

  • Our commitment to your privacy is both legal and our priority. We protect your identity and communications from the beginning to the end of treatment. Clients must share their thoughts and feelings with addiction treatment specialists, counselors, and group session members to benefit from the recovery process. However, the extent of sharing is up to the client.

What about the cost? Can I afford it?

  • The cost of an intensive outpatient program (IOP) can range from $500 to $650 per day, equivalent to $17,250 for a month without insurance, depending on whether you use a health insurance plan and policy details.
  • IOP costs can vary depending on insurance coverage. Contact your insurance company to find out benefit details and our admissions counselor will work with you to submit your insurance coverage with a superbill (we would be considered out of network since we are a private pay office).
  • Journey of Wellness Counseling & Consulting can discuss payment plans for those without insurance or with healthcare insurance. Addiction can lead to legal issues, family conflict, job loss, medical costs, homelessness, and other unmanageable symptoms. Choosing to seek help for substance use is commendable, as it can save you from these costs.

Call us today, we are happy to answer any questions such as, how much does an IOP cost with JWCC and the process of beginning IOP.
